Job Description:
This job is responsible for analyzing and interpreting a client's credit worthiness, evaluating credit risks, and writing credit approval memos for annual renewals and new lending opportunities. Key responsibilities include analyzing qualitative and quantitative data such as client's financials, projections, industry data, covenant compliance, and collateral appraisals to ensure compliance with the bank's risk appetite. Job expectations include completing regular monitoring and underwriting tasks and supporting key internal stakeholders to achieve successful execution of new transactions.
The Credit Underwriter II (CUII) partners closely with the Credit Advisor (CA) to develop and expand custom lending relationships with strategic wealth clients. This role supports responsible and profitable loan and revenue growth, while also managing a portfolio of existing credit relationships. The CUII is responsible for performing and documenting comprehensive financial analysis to support credit decisions for ultra-high net worth clients-including individuals, family offices, trusts, and specialized wealth entities-ensuring full adherence to applicable policies, procedures, and GWIM underwriting standards and guidelines.
Responsibilities:
- Analyzes client's financial performance by comparing it to past performance, projections, and industry standards
- Reviews financial statements, assesses the client's compliance with financial covenants, and renews risk ratings, while recommending changes as warranted
- Assists in the underwriting, credit risk analysis, negotiation, and closing of new transactions or existing transactions, while adhering to all relevant policies and procedures
- Evaluates transaction and relationship risk-adjusted profitability to facilitate the allocation of capital
- Builds projection models for the client (as needed) based on historical performance, industry forecasts, and other due diligence findings
- Trains, coaches, and mentors Credit Analysts
- Complete Credit Approval Memos (CAMs) and Modifications to secure credit approval for complex, custom loan products secured by marketable securities
- Perform detailed marketable securities collateral analysis on stock concentrations, Control / Restricted stock, REIT Operating Units, Exchange Funds, and derivative securities
- Synthesize comprehensive financial information to assess liquidity, leverage, cash flow, key risks/mitigants, and legal structures (trusts, special wealth vehicles, etc.), applying sound judgment to support appropriate credit decisions
- Proactively manage deal pipeline and ensure timely progression of new and existing transactions
Required Qualifications:
- 3-5+ years of commercial and/or private wealth management credit experience
- Strong financial analysis, accounting skills, and deal structuring for borrowers with complex balance sheets and income streams
- Strong negotiation and communication skills
- Proficiency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build business partnerships with risk, services and client teams who may not be co-located
Desired Qualifications:
- Formal Credit Training and/or Commercial/Wealth Management credit experience preferred
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, accounting or economics preferred
- Experience with marketable securities lending preferred
