The Government Compliance Officer is part of the Compliance and Contracts team in the Office of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (OIE). The position reports to the Associate Director, Compliance and Contracts, and works closely with licensing managers, the Government Compliance Specialist, the Director of Intellectual Property, and the IP and contracting teams.
Job duties include but are not limited to:
- Review all new invention disclosures for references to federal, foundation, and other sponsored support, document applicable reporting obligations in KSS, and participate in monthly invention review meetings to confirm funding information
- Retrieve and verify funding and award documentation from PERIS and other systems to support accurate sponsor reporting.
- Communicate with licensing managers and innovators to clarify funding sources, confirm award numbers, and resolve discrepancies.
- Prepare and submit invention disclosures, confirmatory licenses, government support clauses, election of title notices, patent reports, and utilization reports in iEdison and similar sponsor systems.
- Track and respond to agency correspondence related to intellectual property reporting, including requests for additional information and compliance status updates.
- Coordinate with the Office of Sponsored Programs and principal investigators to ensure timely completion of FIS entries, grant closeout tasks, and any sponsor-driven IP reporting requirements tied to award closeout.
- Enter, update, reconcile, and regularly audit compliance-related data in KSS, iEdison, ProposalCentral, Salesforce, and other systems used by OIE.
- Maintain and monitor the government compliance Salesforce queue, and run routine and ad hoc reports from KSS, iEdison, and Salesforce to ensure compliance, identify gaps, and support data integrity.
- Generate internal reports and status summaries to inform OIE leadership, licensing staff, and other stakeholders about current compliance obligations, upcoming deadlines, and outstanding items.
- Monitor changes in Bayh-Dole regulations, iEdison guidance, and sponsor-specific requirements and revise internal procedures, SOPs, checklists, and other compliance guidance documents to reflect updated requirements and practices.
- Maintain a current library of compliance SOPs, checklists, and guidance documents, coordinate periodic reviews, and incorporate feedback from licensing, OSP, IP, and other stakeholders.
- Assist with development and delivery of internal training materials and guidance documents for OIE staff and faculty related to funding disclosures and intellectual property reporting.
- Own the agenda for weekly compliance team meetings, including preparation of discussion topics and tracking of action items.

- Meet weekly with the Government Compliance Specialist to review queues, deadlines, data quality issues, and process improvements.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support OIE compliance and contracts activities.
The Office of Innovation and Entrepreneurship manages the University's intellectual property portfolio, technology licensing, startup support, and related industry partnerships. Within this structure, the Government Compliance Officer focuses on sponsor-driven intellectual property reporting obligations and Bayh-Dole compliance, ensuring that invention and patent reporting is accurate, timely, and aligned across institutional systems and sponsor portals. The position plays a central role in coordinating funding information among OIE, the Office of Sponsored Programs, and principal investigators, and in keeping written compliance procedures current and consistently followed.
Job Summary
Manages the day-to-day performance of compliance assessment projects or programs and resolves compliance issues and ensures compliance. Fosters internal controls, compliance procedures, and compliance audit programs. Assists in all components of audits.
Essential Functions
- Review invention disclosures to identify federal and non-federal funding and determine applicable reporting obligations.
- Prepare, submit, and track invention, patent, and utilization reports in iEdison and other sponsor systems to ensure timely Bayh-Dole compliance.
- Serve as a primary point of contact with federal and non-federal sponsors on intellectual property compliance matters and respond to sponsor inquiries.
- Maintain accurate, consistent compliance data in internal and external databases, including KSS, iEdison, ProposalCentral, and Salesforce.
- Attend and actively participate in monthly invention disclosure review meetings, support funding triage, and ensure that reporting obligations are correctly captured.
- Maintain regular, direct communication with licensing managers regarding funding, reporting status, and outstanding items, and build strong working relationships with licensing staff.
- Coordinate with the Government Compliance Specialist to ensure data integrity, monitor deadlines, and address open compliance items.
- Coordinate with the Director of Intellectual Property and the IP team so that government funding and reporting information is aligned between patent filings and compliance records.
- Develop, update, and maintain written standard operating procedures (SOPs) and related process documentation for government IP reporting and compliance workflows.
- Lead the agenda and follow up items for weekly compliance team meetings and meet weekly with the Government Compliance Specialist to review workload, priorities, and data quality.
- Serve as a resource for faculty and staff on funding related intellectual property reporting questions and participate in internal training.

Position is mostly sedentary but may require travel to attend on campus meetings and events.
